Medical Activities:

Indoor Department: : The total bed strength of the Charitable Hospital is 165. The general ward patients are provided bed, diet, milk, almost all the medicines, and doctors' & nurses' services all at free of cost. The private ward patients are also offered the same services except the medicines and nominal room charge. A total number of 11,867 patients were treated at the in-door department during the year under consideration.

Out Patient Department : The average OPD attendance is 950 per day. Almost 40 doctors provide their services in the OPD every day. One or two super specialists in different disciplines also offer their services on alternate days.
 
Operation Theatre: : The six operating room OT Complex functions five days a week. General & Laparoscopic surgeries; Urological Surgeries; Paediatric, Gynaec & Obstetrics, Orthopaedic, Plastic, ENT and Ophthalmic Surgeries are conducted regularly. Total number of surgeries conducted during the year was 2,311 which include 692 eye surgeries conducted through PHACO, IOL or Yag Lazer. The 4-day Free Urology Camp headed by Dr. (Prof.) Harshad Punjani, Mumbai was conducted in November and March in which 90 and 76 surgeries respectively were performed. Children Ward: : As in previous years, a very generous donor from Mumbai provided the necessary financial support for free treatment to all patients in the 18 bed children ward. This year 986 children got admitted for free treatment in this ward whereas 42,591 children got consultation in the OPD. Free medicines were provided to all the patients.

Alternative Medicines and Clinics: :  The Sevashrama offers Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Acupuncture and Naturopathy ways of alternative treatments on a regular basis.  

Emergency Department : After OPD clinics are closed, the Sevashrama offers Emergency consultation for all patients till the OPD opens next morning. Two MBBS Doctors and one Consultant Gynaecologist are at the service round the clock. 22,343 patients visited the department in the current year.     

Rural Mobile Medical Service-Outreach : : A team comprising 8 doctors, 2 nurses, 1 attendant and 6 volunteers continue to provide medical services in the rural areas of Mathura District four days a week. Regular Oral & Eye check-up camps are also conducted. All the patients are given 6 days medicines free of cost. The total number of patients treated was 39,962. The Mobile Medical Vans used for this service are donated by Blind Foundation for India, USA and Hindustan Petroleum Corp. Ltd., Agra.

Medical Store : Sevashrama purchased medicines worth Rs. 1,91,84,595/- at wholesale rate for free distribution to the poor patients. We ensure that only genuine medicines from reputed companies and of good quality are used in the hospital.

Ma Sarada Dawakhana : This fair price medical shop makes available genuine, good quality and standard company drugs (that are not available at the free OPD dispensary) to the patients at the actual cost. The margin of benefit is only 5% to 15% of the purchasing rate.

Orphan Patients : : Vrindaban being a pilgrimage centre many devotees, especially in their old age, come here to live for the rest of their lives. Sometimes they suffer a pitiable end, dropping sick at Dharamashalas, Ashramas, widow shelters or even at road sides. Invariably they are brought to the Sevashrama and we try to provide them whatever we can to alleviate their suffering. Some of them stay for longer periods. Those who recover, leave the Sevashrama with a sense of deep gratitude. In case of death, if required, we arrange for their last rites as well. The period under consideration witnessed 8 such orphan mortalities.

Blood Bank : Apart from exchange donors from patients' side, different groups of voluntary donors provided the life-saving blood throughout the year. We are very grateful to the Red Cross Blood Bank, Delhi for supplying blood units to our patients whenever required. A total of 823 transfusions took place at the hospital this year.

  • New Emergency Block constructed with the kind financial contribution of Somani Foundationm, New Delhi, was inaugurated on 30 August, 2014 in the presence of Somani Family, monks, staff, devotees & well-wishers. The new Block has a spacious Doctor's cabin, Reception, Doctor's rest room, Waiting Hall, Rain Basera and Canteen.A new Emergency Block is being constructed in place of the old and dilapidated building with the kind financial assistance of Somani Foundation, New Delhi
  • A new Staff Quarters for Grade-IV is constructed with the kind financial assistance of Sri Padma Keshav Trust, Indore and was inaugurated on 22 February 2015 in the presence of monks, students, staff, devotees and well-wishers
  • Diabetes Program: Manav Seva Foundation (MSF) Inc, USA continued its valuable support for our Diabetes program by providing technical support and bearing the salary of a diabetes educator. MSF and Prajakta Ranade have trained our diabetes educators through distance education. Through the generous support of Sureka Public Charity Trust, New Delhi, Krishi Rasayan Exports Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi, Kirpalani Foundation, USA, The Hans Foundation, New Delhi we are able to serve 75 poor patients with insulin and other diabetes supplies and nearly 100 poor patients with oral medications for diabetes, hypertension and dyslipidemia. The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) through MSF, USA has endorsed the 'Certified Diabetes Educator-India' certification issued by our Sevashrama.
  • We gratefully acknowledge the voluntary service of Dr. Sunita Maheshwari and her team. of Radiologists at Teleradiology Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore in providing prompt and expert diagnostic reports of all CT Scan images through teleradiology. With their kind support we have been able to serve the poor patients by providing CT Scan facility at a nominal cost.
  • Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojna (BPL/Smart Card): The Govt. scheme of medical insurance to the Below Poverty Line people of the land through BPL/Smart Card has been continued successfully at the Sevashrama Hospital. A total of 74 cases were treated under RSBY during 2014 15. The cardholders are offered free treatment, medicines and also conveyance charges after their discharge.
  • Eye Camps: Eye screening camps were held in different villages once a week during winter. On an average 10 to 15 patients were brought for surgery from each camp to the Hospital in the vehicle provided by Blind Foundation for India, USA. They were taken back to their homes/villages in the same vehicle after the surgery with all necessary medicines. These camps are being sponsored by Sri Baijnath Garodia Charitable Trust, Assam, Hemalatha Memorial Trust, Tamilnadu, Sri Surendra Mohan, New Delhi and other generous donors.
  • Patient Services and Accounting System (PSAS): With the kind help and generous support of Sri Jagannathan Srinivasan of Sarada Research Labs, Bangalore and his team, the development of Hospital Management System has been functioning successfully with regular upgradation as usual.
 
 
The hospital has a well equipped blood bank which is only one of its kind in the district of Mathura. The blood bank conducts regular blood donation camps.

The dental department has two dental chairs and treats all dental ailments. The dentures clinic prepares different kinds of dentures for the needy patients. Dental surgery and radiology are also done.

Vision testing, provision of spectacles, cataract and other eye operations, slit lamp eye testing are the facilities available in this section. Regular eye camps are conducted where patients from rural areas are operated for cataract removal.

The sections of Ante-natal and Post-natal care monitor the condition of the mothers and their babies. They are given training in childcare too. This wing has a nursery where premature babies are taken care of in incubators.

Three days a week, the medical outreach of the hospital consisting of doctors, nurses and paramedics goes to the villages within a radius of 100 kms. and treat the poor patients and give them free medicines.  Patients required sustained medicare are brought in the outreach van to the hospital where they are admitted in the Indoor Department.

The outpatient department treats about 900 patients per day free of cost.  The OPD has departments of general medicine, paediatrics, gynaecology, cardiology, dentistry, ophthalmology, tuberculosis, psychiatry and oncology.  Apart from allopathic treatment, the OPD also offers alternative medicine like homeopathy, ayurveda, reiki, pranic healing and yoga therapy.
